June 2001:- just a bit of a laugh really.
Alan asks Bernie if he fancies having a
a strum and hopefully entertaining
people on the ‘Safari Dinner’fund raiser.
Bernie gives a nervous yes.
MLC the duo is born.
October 2001:- Alan borrowed an
electric guitar, Bernie borrowed
some more courage and MLC were
on the road albeit only half a mile up
the road to Shore Edge.
November 2001:- Alan H got his birthday
pressie on this gig ....A new strat. This was
the day that MLC became a four piece.
Sam our bassist was introduced to us through
Alan Lord who teaches guitar.....Alan himself
joined us on drums just for the hell of it.
We also featured Danny and Mark on Trumpets.
May 2002:- Back to the police station
raising £450 for the ‘Getting It Straight’
Campaign. Phil,on keyboard and out of
shot, joins the band. Sams solo on ‘Don’t
Look Back In Anger’ goes down well.
Sept 2002:- St Annes give a warm welcome to MLC
and our two new members, Pete on drums and Rose
who adds a new dimension to our vocals. The
audience enjoyed it as did Pete and Rose.
Oct 2002:- MLC share the billing with ‘In Cahoots’
at the Union Club in Oldham. Many thanks to ‘In
Cahoots’ for letting us use their PA. The proceeds
from this event are part of the annual charity
Fundraising by Oldham Masonic Lodge. Local charity
will benefit from this at the end of the year.
March 2003:- This was a St Pats night social at
St. Annes parish Rooms Clarksfield. A landmark
gig for MLC, our first sellout gig and also the first
return invite were we have not been involved with
organising the event.
May 2003:- Michael Turner Joins us on Bass as
Sam could not make this gig. At very short notice
Mick slotted in nicely - indeed the night of the
gig was the first time he’d played with Phil and
Pete. Thanks Mick!
May 2003:- Alan Nield guests for us at St Annes as Sam
moves on to pastures new. Our first contact with Alan
was through an e-mail when he told us he was in a newly
formed band that were thinking of calling themselves?
........... Mid Life Crisis! His enthusiasm for this gig was
massive pulling out all the stops and was equally matched
by his ability.
July 2003:- No two gigs are ever the same
with MLC and this was another landmark
performance our first time as a trio. We are
shrinking faster than a pair of 501’s
July 2003:- Back to full strength
for this our first festival. ‘It’s just
like Woodstock’ we heard someone
saying. But they didn’t say which
Woodstock or when!
Nov 2003:- Back at the Police
Station raising £550 pound to
be shared equally between The
Sick Childrens Trust and Willow
Wood Hospice Ashton.
Aug 2004:- A private function
sees MLC branch out :- a free
‘n’ easy set, an acoustic set as
well as two full group sets, The
complete package????
April 22nd 2005:- A full page article
in the Daily Express featured both
ourselves and our friends MLC -
Jacksonville - Florida. This light piece
pitched us about right.
Look out for author Stephen Giles
book which will feature a chapter
relating to the two MLC’s.
